Shelly Helms Fleishman once painted her television because it seemed like more fun than watching it. Right now, she’s into birds. Most of her pieces at Marketplace 120 are done on canvas using acrylics and decorative art papers to create textured, vibrant backgrounds for her expressive local birds. She has quite a collection of bird books and she uses them to help keep the shape, color and feathers true to life, more or less. Shelly also takes commission. If you look at her market site: mkt.com/shelley, you’ll see she’s recently painted landscapes, portraits, and panel projects.
The names of her paintings show a sense of whimsy and joy in life, many of her birds and animals gets a name. “Song Sparrow Saves the World”, “Horned Owl: Grumpy”, and “Female Kingfisher: Queenie” are just a few of the names of her works.
